The Blue Grotto, a.k.a Grotta Azzura, is a sea cave that is illuminated in spectacular fashion.
Per Wikipedia, “Sunlight shining through an underwater cavity is reflected back upward through the seawater below the cavern, giving the water a blue glow”.

The only entrance is three meters in width and merely one meter in height. Access is solely by row boat and limited to times when, tide, wave height, and winds permit.
Visitors must lie on the bottom of the boat to enter and exit the cave.

The guide uses a chain to get the boat into and out of the cave.

In April 2024, I had the good fortune to visit when weather and sea conditions permitted.
Roman Emperor Tiberius used the Blue Grotto as his private swimming pool while spending time at his villa on Capri. Given his reputation, who knows what nefarious activities took place.
I hope you enjoyed Almost Wordless Wednesday and will have (or have had) a chance to see Capri and this beautiful and mysterious cave.
True….cool blue view!
